The key is to get them off when they are still fresh.

Also, "Simple Green" works great! Spray it on, let is soak for a minute or two, then use some wet paper towels to remove the bug guts. Spray off with a hose and you're done.

sometimes its hard to get them off right away. here in the south you can drive to work and back home and your truck will be covered with them. i have tried simple green before but was worried about the paint.

Well, we only used simple green on the chrome pieces. and it is important to get it off quickly. So hose it down really well.

Griots Garage makes a product called Bug Off (http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=12980). I haven't used it but it sounds promising.

yea i know plus i am a clean freak so it really bothers me when there is dirt or bugs on my truck. lol

My solution is a real soft brush. I keep a very very very soft brush that is always clean. I'll dip it into my bucket so it gets the good soap on it, then run it lightly across the areas with the bugs. This really helps to break them loose (if it doesn't remove them completely!). Then you can run your sponge over it just like you're cleaning and it should do the trick.

I know everybody knows to get the darn bugs off ASAP. My boss bought a brand new Expedition last year... top of the line. When he got back from his first Florida trip, he procrastinated calling me to clean it up for about a month. When he finally called me up, the bugs came off easy, and so did the paint they were stuck to. Some of the bugs are acidic and if left on the paint long enough, will actually destroy it. How's that make you feel Shailey?? LOL

I am actually debating getting the 3M coating on the front since it's still in good shape before it starts to get bad.

jestep
08-27-2007, 12:39 PM
Stephens truck looks like a bug magnet. what do you mean by coating it with 3m? spraying it right onto the paint. if you do that wont you have to reapply every so often?

shailey
08-27-2007, 01:06 PM
What he is talking about is a 3M vinyl protectant. It is made specifically for your truck and protects ALL of the painted areas that face forward. You just apply it like tape, but it can be removed. I removed it from my 05 when it finally started to discolor.

But it is clear and you have to really look to see if it is on there.

they have that on my hood from the dealer. i think they called it digifilm or something like that. you have to look really close to see it.

I'll wash my truck tomorrow and give the dryer sheets a try. It would be a cheep fix too the bug problem. As a side note I've seen posts asking about cleaning tires so the spray doesn't get on your truck. I use SOS pads, cleans the tries and white letters like new. For those that like there tires shiny it doesn't leave them shiny, just new looking.

jestep

make sure you wet the dryer sheet first and it donst take much elbow grease

the wet dryer sheets are the best solution that I have found. They are cheap and easy to use. Yes, you need to wash off the residue that accumalates while using them. I use a Detailers spray and microfiber towel.

Another tip is if you have gone on a long trip and have a mass accumulation of bugs or if it has been a few days since you've washed the bug remnants off then..............
1)take a towel(s) that you will be able to dedicate to this process
2) get the water from your bath or kitchen faucet as HOT as you can
3) soak the towel(s) in the HOT water
4) ring out a little without burning yourself!!!!
5) lay/confrom the towel to the shape of the front of your ride
6) allow the HOT towel to sit on there for 20-30 minutes
7) come back and the bug, guts, ect will be totally loosened and will almost wipe off

It will help the process if you get some of the large bug parts off first with a brush and soapy water. This towel technique is good for getting the stuck, baked on, hard to remove bugs and gut removal.

Its important to remember that any type of "BUG REMOVAL" products will strip any/all protection you may have had on your hood/bumper area. When they remove the bugs, they remove wax/sealant with them! Keep that in mind, you may need to reapply protection afterwards or thing twice before using them.

I finally got to try the wet used dryer sheet method and it totally blew me away at how easy the bugs came off. I hardly put any elbow grease while rubbing and they just came off. I now carry my used sheets with me so when I get a chance at work I just wet one and wipe the front end down. I even tried it on my windshield and it seemed to get them off of there easily. I like the Stoners Glass cleaner too. I wash it twice at least then go back with a fine microfiber sheet and polish it up. Unless I rush the job I don't have streaks.

That dryer trick is ridiculous. How do you expect me to fit a full size truck in the dryer......jeez

lol

but that Bug Off Stuff comes in wipe form, and it takes a lot of elbow grease, might as well spit on your finger and work it out.
