First few lines of the article pretty much says it:

Tennessee tight end Brad Cottam will miss most of the season with a left wrist injury.

The 6-foot-8 senior landed awkwardly on his left hand while trying to pull down a pass from Erik Ainge in the team's final scrimmage of the preseason Tuesday.

Same here. I mean it helps opposing teams, but I hate seeing a kid out for the year or most of the year due to an injury ESPECIALLY when he's a senior.

6th year? He'd have to come back next year to play to be considered for the NFL?

Cottam had a career-high 14 receptions for 182 yards last season, and his 45-yard reception at Vanderbilt last season was the longest by a Tennessee tight end since Jason Witten ran for 48 yards against Arkansas in 2002.

Is 182 yards good for a TE in college? I don't watch much college ball so I wouldn't know.

Cool - learned something knew about Witten.

All college TEs should model their game after Jason Witten, imo. One of the best. Even if he does play for Dallas :)

Well, Parcells said he liked him because he was a good ol' country boy who didn't cause trouble. He's always the one breaking up fights, he does quite a bit of charity work, and just one of those classy players. Darren Woodson was the same way. I like those players. They might not get the ball near as much or the publicity, but they are great for the team and fans. I just wish Witten would get the ball more. He is a good reciever. His blocking could use some work.

Well, it is hard to top perfection. :)

Is 182 yards good for a TE in one season in college ball? 45 of those yards were on one play.

Doesn't seem very good. I know they are BIG boys so they get used to block a lot.

Remember this thread?

Just another example of the heart, soul, and never-say-die attitude that Tennessee has shown throughout the season. They've come a long way and have earned their wpot in the SEC championship!

Props to the boys in the ugly orange....and to Fulmer too!

I still think they got lucky. LOL My step dad and myself have already started the trash talking. He got his masters at LSU.

but to answer Kristi's post above. UT has been kind of known for it being a wide receiver university. Tight ends are used a lot on UT's team for cracking down on linebackers and blocking for post patterns. They play a vital role in the plays without getting any credit.

There's no doubt the ball bounced their way at important times BUT...they never gave up through out the year (LOL except at their thrashing by 39 points by UF) when many other teams would have folded. They kept clawing back after many close, comeback games.

You know what, it is all about luck though. Every single year, whoever wins the national title can look back on one play or game and say, that should have went another way. Example, when UT won the national title in 98, the game was over when ARkansas was trying to run the clock down. All they had to do was hand it off OR take a knee. He had dropped back for a pass late late late in the 4th and on that turn over UT scored and won the game.
