when i was on my way home from panama city beach i was driving down hwy 267 in the middle of the forest runnig about 75-80 when all the sudden the truck just fell on its face and would not rev past 2500 rpm. i pulled over shut it down let it cool off a bit (altho it wasnt hot) checked all vital fluids and restarted same problem it took at least a 1/4 mile just to make it to the 55mph speed limit with my foot on the floor with the truck bucking and jerking the whole time. wonce i got up to speed i backed out of the throttle and it woudl almost die. i had just over a 1/4 tank of fuel and have run him almost dry before without any trouble so i dont think that was the prob. i had to limp it about 20 miles like this untill i got to where my cell would work to call for a tow. they took me to kraft nissan in talahasee where they found no problems and when they started the truck it ran and drove fine with no codes. i thanked them for their time and left. well on the way home it did it again at least this time i was near civilization i stopped at a station and called the dealer they sent someone out and truck was still acting up but after a few min id straighened out and all was well. the tech said that was a first for him and didnt know what to tell me. i drove the rest of the way home about 150mi with no problems. what could have caused this so if it happens again i can tell them where to look since they could find nothing.

oh and btw great forum stephen and any idea when the will do a redesign on the powertrain on the titan? diff #5 is getting noisy and im just about sick of the truck but i couldnt bring myself to part with my baby unless it was for another one that had an updated/stronger diff.

You have all the signs of the truck going into "Limp Mode" which keeps it from overheating. This can be due to tranny temps ( I doubt it since you were cruising at a constant speed) or due to engine temperature.

The only thing that is not consistent with it being in limp mode is being able to do this for 20 miles. Normally when it goes into limp mode it will limit engine rpm, jerk back and forth (feels like you aren't getting any fuel) and then the slip light, ABS light and Service Engine Soon light will all come on.

There can be several causes for the truck doing this...water pump, thermostat, low on coolant.

Other reasons are fuel pump, fuel tank sensor, fuel filter clogged. It could also be something getting sucked into the intake tube and simply getting on the MAF sensor messing up the voltage being received by the ECM. (I removed a bug from a co-workers MAF sensor just a couple of weeks ago that gave similar symptoms of jerking and not getting any power).

But once again, NONE of the problems listed in the above paragraph explain the limiting of RPM level to 2500. That goes along with engine and/or tranny overheat.

thanks for the quick reply. i had no warning lights come on what so ever it kinda scared me since i was in the middle of no where and my phone wouldnt even work. the temp was just under the center of the guage where it normally stays and all fluids were at propper level.(do you have any idea how hard it is to get your hands on a 10mm wrench in the boonies to check the trans fluid)
the truck hasnt done this again so im hoping that is was something on the maf like you said and nothing serious. thanks again for the quick reply and the info

When my truck overheated last summer after putting the flex a lite fan on, my temp gauge never went up either. Even when it shut down on the side of the road after pulling into a parking lot, it still was showing normal.

I am going to get into this one a little more though, this is concerning.

tlmaniac, you can try and carry a camera with you, and record it if you can when this happens. I know how trucks fake like they are fine when they go to the dealers. Record it, and show the dealer.
