You get 2 picks. Would also be good to hear why you chose your two picks. It will be interesting to go back at the end of the season and see who was right (if anyone) and if their rationale was accurate.
Pick #1. USC (So. Cal) and UF.
Concerns...Harvey's ankle gets better, Tebow doesn't get injured, UF defense gels.
Pick #2. USC and LSU.
Pac 10 not as tough as SEC so I think USC has best shot to make it to the title game.

As strong as the conference should be this year, I'm not sure if any team will survive. If one of the SEC teams is going to make it, I think it'll be LSU as much as it pains me to say it. S. Carolina is going to ruin either UF, UT, or UGA's chance at playing in Atlanta if not more than one of them...
LSU vs. USC (not S. Carolina, LOL)
LSU vs. UM
If Bobby Petrino weren't in Atlanta, I'd have Louisville in one of these slots.
Go Dawgs!!!

LOL...better get some coffee, this is a long one!
I do love the subtle sarcasm of a Texas boy! OK Mr. Who's your doddy (I do like your title!) from Arlington. (homer back at ya!) :D
I will grant you that Texas looks good this year...but if Texas gets through to the BSCS championship, it's because of your lack of serious competition in that once great conference you play in. (Just trying to get some juices flowing here...all in good fun Dod.) Come on over and join us in the cannibal conference (SEC) if you want some real headaches each weekend.
This will be the first year we get to see Urban Meyer's true Spread offense. Leak was a good QB, but they had to change the spread to fit his abilities. This year we get to see a QB (Tebow) that not only knows Meyer's offense from his last years playing experience...but one that fit's the real Spread offense to a T (sorry Kurk, had to infringe there). True we lost some good players, but we go deep on the depth charts at many positions ourselves. If Tebow can stay healthy and our defense gels, I can see us playing LSU for the SEC championship...and then on to the BSCS title game.
I do agree with you about USC...they are too go deep on the depth charts. Like their running backs...4 out of their top 7 (yes,I said 7) could start on almost any team, anywhere. And Booty should kick some serious gluteus (forgive the pun) this year as USC's new stud QB!
Regardless of what happens, there are many good teams this year, with Michigan being my third pick to play USC if UF and LSU don't make it (so take heart Joey!) This is gonna be a great college football year guys. I look forward to the smack talk from all my fellow homers on MT. Let's have some fun here!

LOL, it's not our fault the competition has weakened. OU is coming back and A&M will put up a fight against us too. Maybe one day the Big 12 North will get there stuff together too. Nebraska is trying. Heck, USC's schedule is a joke too. Nobody's complaining about them. :)
I'll give you the SEC is a beast. It's almost a shame that all those teams are in it. Makes the regular season lots of fun. It also makes it extremely hard to run the table.
You UF fans are the some of the most loyal people I've seen. Unfortunately, I don't see y'all having a shot. If the Vols don't get you LSU will. I also think everyone is way too high on Tebow. I could be wrong but I just don't see it. Watch old Colt McCoy (if he stays healthy) now there's a QB! ;D

You can knock the schedule. But come on. Colt is really good.
68.2% completion rate

Admit you'd love to have him! Also, no SEC team really wants to see Texas on their schedule. Come on admit it. ;)

Against those 4 teams a 68% completion rate is HORRIBLE - LOL. And no, I have no desire for McCoy to play for UGA. Perhaps you'll recognize our QB's name, Matthew Stafford? Voted AAAA "Mr. Texas" in high school?

Like I said, this is gonna be a great year/great forum to talk some college football smack!!
And don't be hatin' on Tebow. Laugh if you want, but if he doesn't get hurt this year (and the spread offense can beat your QB up if he holds the ball too long on those options) Tebow is gonna turn alot of heads with his ARM.

I was not wrong about the SEC being overrated though, was I. All the trash talked about the Big 12 this year looks a little silly now. The Big 12 and the Pac 10 were superior conferences than the SEC. It's a shame because of all the hype LSU will still end up going to the title game.

My picks still are in great standing to hold true.
I still don't think the SEC was over rated by any means though. How many teams are going to make bowl games from the SEC?
It is the only conference that beats up on themselves and ruins other chances of national titles on a consistent basis.

Doddy, I respect your knowledge of the game and your opinion.... but tell me how you can say that the SEC is overrated when it will has 10 teams already eligiable for bowl games....11 if Vandy wins! No conference has ever done that before....EVER!
Let's wait till the end of the year and see who does well in their bowl games to make the claim about The Big 12, Pac 10, and SEC being the best.
As far as LSU...as much as I hate to say it...they "got it done" so far. Bottom line you have to win games to get to #1 and they have done it....regardless if it was a combo of skill-luck-desperation etc.
And how many teams outside of our conference knocked SEC teams from the top 10 or even top 25 as Shailey has said above?
I will, and often do give props where props are do...LOL... and I know some of the smack talk on this thread has been pretty deep. But smack and facts need to be clearly separated...I am interested in hearing how you put the SEC as the 3rd best conference in the nation other than just hatin' on them. ;)
dodson914
11-16-2007, 10:56 AM
3 out of the top 5 teams are big 12 teams. You're right SEC may be the 2nd best this year. But come on. Florida three losses and two less wins the Texas and you are still ranked above them. You can't tell me the bias is not there. Not matter how weak the conference is they will always get love from the media. And I am not the only one saying this I have heard multiple people from espn and sports shows saying the same thing. The SEC is the best conference in football year after year. Just not this year.
Swampthang
11-16-2007, 11:34 AM
The Big 10 has 6 teams bowl eligible right now as opposed to our 10 (11 if Vandy wins 1 more game). That shows that our conference is much stronger Chris.
And do you think that...Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas going up against LSU, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee would be 4 and out for the Big 10?
Put the SECs teams head to head against the Big 12 or the Pac 10s teams.... Top team vs top team on down to the weakest teams vs each other and I think any objective voter would say that the SEC would come out with the most wins due to the strength of all their teams.
I will give the Big 10 props Chris for having 3 teams in the top 5...but it doesn't have the depth that the SEC has.....which means on any given Saturday, any team in the SEC can be beaten by another SEC team. Kansas, Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma are good teams but they only have to worry about each other. We have to worry about everyone...(LOL...with the exception of one SEC team who's name I won't mention out of respect for it's one loyal fan on this forum.) ;)
Bottom line buddy...this is all fun and speculation. No one will know until we go head to head, or go by total teams in bowls, or the winning percentage of the conference teams in bowls. As long as there are rankings based on people's opinions and not playoff games....we will all argue this point till we're blue in the face.
Now, in your opinion, why should T-bone not win the Heisman THIS year?
Swampthang
11-16-2007, 11:47 AM

With that train of thought...why isn't Hawaii ranked higher?
What is this "love" thing Doddy? What do the "experts' and commentators get out of voting for, or stating that UF is good? A love thing? More like a respect thing my Texas friend.
Look at our losses...we GAVE the LSU and Auburn games away with timely fumbles by good ole Moore. Georgia beat us (here comes that injured player card) with Tebow hurting bad and still playing... but not his normal game (No scramblin or rushing... just stay in the pocket). Not excuses...just reasons that objective people use for rating their 3 close losses to ranked SEC teams as reasons for putting them higher than Texas.
Do you think Texas would beat UF in a bowl game tomorrow? You probably do and once again I respect your opinion and loyalty. But ask anyone outside the Big 10 and SEC to pick a team and tell me how many people would pick Texas over UF.
Is all this talk important? LOL..not a bit! Just fun to toss back in forth. ;)

I agree Hawaii probably should be ranked a little higher. And they do love the SEC. It's not respect. It's east coast bias. Same thing that I had to hear for the past 3 weeks about how the Giants were better than the Cowboys. Well, we all see how that one went down.
I know it's all in good fun. I am not in the least bit upset over this. I just think this year the SEC was overrated. My opinion, that's all.

At least in the Pros those "biased" opinions can wait to see how it all works out in the playoffs...not so with College. How you are ranked gets you to the bowls where teams are then ranked again.
