Also, any helpful tips when clay barring?

I use the mothers one from walmart.
Tips are to take your time and use PLENTY of lube! You dont want that bar to stick. Also try not to hit the edge of the bed caps with it because yellow clay gets stuck and does not like to come out.

That is my question........are the clay bars worth it?
I have the MeGuiars "blue/less-aggressive" one. I lube it w/the quick detailer spray. It helps take off the stuff that the soap wont get. But if you claybar you'll take off any wax or polish... so I usually dont claybar unless I'm ready to take a couple of hours and buff, polish and wax right after. It's very tedious, but our paint is so soft that a 2 or 3 step polish & wax actually help protect it from scratches. ...
Get this.... I scratched my paint yesterday w/a little ceasars pizza box !!! as I was loading 3 $5 pizzas in the back seat... gimme a break !!! our paint is sooooo soft !!!

A Clay Bar will work wonders, IMO it's easier to pay someone to do it as it will be very time consuming.........

it's worth the $$$ to not have to worry about it at all!!! Imagine what you could be doing instead of washing, clay barring, polishing, waxing. I know I could name a few other things i would rather do on my day off............ ;D

you all use clay BARS......... heck around here we have clay fields... just drive through them a couple times and your truck gets all the clay it could ever want......
so if you clay bar do you need to wax with a buffer or can you hand wax it??
yes, you can hand wax it !! (if you do... I recommend "nufinish" one step hand application wax/polish)

I'm laughing at myself now!!! I mentioned above that I would rather pay for someone to clay and what not my truck, well i just went out and bought the Mothers Clay Bar Kit ($17) but I ain't using it on the Titan. I am gonna hook up the wifey's little car (Mazda Protoge) cause we need to sell it. I figured it was small enough that I would be able to tackle it on my own.............
I'll let you all know how it went once I'm done!!!!!
There went my dayoff.............. >:(

I thought about clay-barring my truck. Now i just say, forget it. The only thing i might do is Ice Liquid Clay Bar. Also, do y'all use a machine buffer to wax your truck? I've never used one and don't own one. Is it faster than waxing my hand. I personally just use Eagle One, Wax as you dry when i do decide to wax it. It seems to work pretty well.

Okay, Clay Barring is not for me!!! I just got done doing the wife's little Mazda Protoge and man what a royal PITA. I will never again being doing this, I will gladly pay to get this done. I couldn't even imagine trying to clay bar the Titan, it's 3 times the size of the little car I just did and I'm beat!!! I haven't even waxed it yet..........
Never ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I will say it does look good, and I can't believe all the crap that came out using the clay bar, I mean there were times where the yellow clay was completly brown with dirt. And yes i did wash the car first. But what a difference it does make, paint is very very smooth now and it's not even waxed up yet. I will be doing that tonight, Just needed a breather for a few hours first.................

Where is SoCal are you?
Fellow members: I don't care what wax, cleaner, or polish you use.
None of it WILL REMOVE POLLUTION.
If you don't clay bar first, you are wasting your time.
Pollution, if left on the paint, will eat thru the clear coat.
Once you get the hang of using a clay bar...
...the entire truck can be done in an hour.
CAVEAT EMPTOR: Never used a buffer?
Find something to practice on first.
A buffer can get away from you, taking everything off in its path.

T stays very clean .. just ask Shailey .... and I am a very firm believer in clay bar use ... I use Mothers .... but that goes to show that I truly am a Mommas boy !! Mothers ??? Forget it .. lol
Clar Bars are very beneficial as long as they don't have scary heads on them.

I washed my truck and scrubbed it thinking it was clean but you could rub the finish with your hands and still feel grime. So I bought a clay bar and tried it. I ended up getting the "Clay Magic" bar because I didnt have to buy all the other stuff with it. It was cheaper because it was just the lube and the bar. I gave it a shot, it made a huge difference. And I really dont think its that hard. What I found out is that the amount of lube you use is very important. You dont want too much but also want enough to make it slide easily. Do one section at a time and be sure to wipe off the excess lube before it dries. I then applied Liquid Glass polish and I'm amazed at home smooth the finish is... I cant help but rub it after I get out the the truck... ;) umm that didnt sound right. I mean feel how smooth and slippery the surface is... yah thats what I meant!

Ya I was at the HB meet next to the pier, lots of great people and sick Titans. I assume you were there as well? Of course I want my truck clayed!!! Are you a detailer or do you just have a hook up somewhere or is it something you just do? Hands down to anyone that clays as imo it's a PITA. Although as I look at the wifes car in the garage I am proud of what I did with it, the paint is so smooth.............. :)

I've been detailing since I was 10 years old. You can bring it here, or I'll come to you.
Truck must be in the shade.
About one hour to clay bar the entire vehicle.
I did a clay bar demonstration at HB.
I did another at Stillen last November.
All those shiny trucks...covered with pollution. ???
I could have spent several days at either locale, just detailing.

BKW has been involved with dealerships for many many years. I may need to be corrected here, but his family has owned several dealerships over the years and he handled the parts end of it later in life.
I truly trust what he says.

I'll use:
NAPA, Zaino, or Sonus.
I will only clay bar in the spring, unless something happens that bonds to the finish. It's an all day affair but I find it thearuputic, excuse my spelling.
After the clay, then I determine amount of polishing. Once the finish is to my liking then I'll apply a protectant.
Usually it takes me 8 hours to do a vehicle, that includes the inside, under the hood, wheel wells, yadah, yadah, yadah.

Family were GM dealers for 80 years, but I never worked for dad, except when I was a kid...dad didn't pay much.
Ford parts man/manager for 35 years.
Car collector since 1956.
I thank you again Sir, for answering my question that the dealer couldn't answer.
What is that *)(*(^&% front end clunk when first starting out?
The ABS resetting itself...that drove me crazy till you gave me the answer.

I used to clay bar my 05 Titan, and it makes a big difference on how smooth the vehicle is before waxing. That truck has been totaled since October 16, 07. I have a new 08 titan Le crew cab now and I'm going to try the turtle ice kit before winter sets in. once I get my new truck looking like my old one I will post some pictures.

I don't think the ICE liquid clay works as well as a real clay bar. I'm about to buy the Meguiar's kit like silvertitan so I can do it right. I'm sick of water spots!!!!!!!

the turtlewax liquid clay bar is junk i didnt even finish the hood before i threw it in the trash. it dosent work! plus even if you towel dry the truck like it says to when you are done be prepared to wipe a white chalky residue off the truck. imho that stuff should only be used to hold the store shelf down it is junk!!!

Well I'm pretty picky & was totally skeptical of anything from Turtle Wax, but the liquid claybar did work OK for me on the wife's G35.
It's not as good as a 'real' claybar, but it was easy to apply & tough to mess up (which can happen if you don't keep the bar lubed up).
I washed, then bar'ed, then washed again - just to be sure there was no residue left - then waxed.
It didn't remove all the water spots, but does look 100% better .......
