A clay bar will remove white spots from the plastic cowl and other plastic areas.

Always wax in the shade on cool surfaces.

If you use a poly finish, let it dry for several hours first, then remove it and do it again.

NEVER use a wax containing silicone and NEVER spray silicone near the paint.

Silicone will STRIP OFF the clearcoat!

Everytime you go thru a car wash, you can kiss your wax or poly good bye.

NEVER use dish detergent on any paint.

Not only will it strip off the wax, but it will cause the paint to have a dull dry look.

I tried the Meguiars NXT paste, Turtle ICE, and Race Glaze.

The Meguiars was ok. The ICE was easy to work with but didnt last long. But I did put it on my black plastic and it made it really shinny and slippery on the running boards! The race glaze was good but didnt hold up.

The latest I'm trying (I did it yesterday) was Liquid Glass. I cleaned the truck then hit it with a clay bar. After I had it all cleaned I used this Liquid Glass stuff. Its extremley smooth and the dust just wipes right off it. I havent see how well it will hold up but a detailer friend of mine swears by it. We'll see I need something to keep my black truck clean!!

Liquid Glass is the brand.

http://www.liquidglass.com/

I just read the web page and they make a PRE-CLEANER you are supposed to use. I didnt see that at the store or I would have tried that.

I used the "clay magic" it was cheaper than the Miguaris and you didnt have to get all the other crap with it. Overall it seemed to work well. The trick I learned is to wipe off the spray lube before it has a chance to dry.

I cant say how long it will last since I just did it yesterday but I was told that if you do 2 good coats IE 1 saturday then another on sunday its supposed to be great stuff. The cool thing is it really makes it smooth, the dust just wipes right off it. Also the more layers the better, so I hear... It wasnt cheap but I did 2 coats on the whole truck and still have a lot leftover. Just be sure to get it really clean before you apply it.

Why use paste over liquid?

I was just going to use liquid since i don't have a buffer. And will be doing it all by hand. What do y'all think of the Mothers SynWax? It's a liquid wax. And then using spray wax everytime I wash it since i can "wax as i dry". Or should I just use the Meguiar's NXT liquid wax and then use the Meguiar's quikwax. Thanks folks.

silvertitan7
08-27-2007, 10:22 PM
I hand wax and think its easier to use a paste. I dont think you can use a paste with a buffer.

etalian2005
08-27-2007, 10:57 PM
actually you can and do. paste is a PITA by hand. that's why i'm thinking about doing liquid wax and just doing wax as i dry the rest of the time just to keep the wax fresh.

plus, i heard paste wax was for older, more oxidized paint.

I still think the best wax you can buy from your average auto parts store is the blue Zymol. It's a liquid cleaner wax and does a good job. For the average wax, I use this. I have used it numerous times on my own vehicles and customers vehicles. It's an affordable alternative to the expensive stuff. Around $15 for the bottle.

I think I have some of that Zymol stuff in my garage. haha. the plastic box it's in is like a tinted brown now. and the stuff is blue on the inside. is that really the best? i find that hard to imagine.

and for applying wax by hand, do you put the liquid on the surface first or do you pour it on your towel first?

My local parts stores sell a few brands in that same price range, but nothing better. In previous threads, I have suggested the high-end Zymol and Menzerna products... but if you want a good affordable wax, I really like the blue Zymol.

As for the application, I mostly use my Cyclo so I just apply it straight to the pad. Rub it onto the surface gently so it wont make a mess when you turn the buffer on, and you're good to go. If you'll be doing it by hand, pick up a 3-pack of applicator pads for a few bucks... they work much better than a towel. Stick a little wax on the pad and dig in... Use a good microfiber towel to wipe the wax off.

Before I got my DA machine I used Nufinish almost exclusively. Its a "polymere" (sp?). It's been fine on all my clearcoats thus far. It's what I use if I want to use a quick one-step product by hand and dont have all day to do a real 3-step meguiars proccess.
