What does everyone think about going with the Vbulletin style forum which is what every other forum in the world uses? It is also what everyone is used to that is on other sites.

I like how this format is different, but I'd have to say that the other seems to be easier to navigate. But like you said, maybe it's just because that's what we're used to. Why not make it a poll?

Here is a test version of the way this forum is about to go to.
http://smfdemo.boardnation.com/index.php?board=3.0
looks very similar to the vbulletin boards, but has some extra stuff on it also. They did test on switching everyone over this past weekend, so the change should be coming quickly.

For what it's worth .... I would like the V-Bulletin format. I hate learning curves, but would be more than happy to learn any new forum due to the great guys that are here. I really would prefer the VB though.

I know the site right now is not very user friendly, but IT WILL GET BETTER!!!

Knox, will the "Shout" feature translate to the new format? From the look of it, that will be a popular one!
knox_titan
08-14-2007, 07:51 PM
The "shout" feature is a special thing that Joe formated himself. You can't even get that through boardnation, but he hooked us up, and yes it should go right over to the new format.
When they turn the forum over to the new format everything "SHOULD" switch over with out a problem! lol

One more thing about the shout feature. With as much posting as there is now some very recent posts get pushed off of the bottom. Can it be expanded to see more of the previous posts so something doesn't get missed? Just a thought.

i personally would love to have VBulletin. It would be a lot easier for everybody. And could possibly increase your membership since it's easier to use and navigate. Just my 2 cents

Later in the thread, they stated they aren't doing VBulletin..but if you click that link of the sample forum, you'll see this layout is getting a complete makeover very soon..and it's setup just like VBulletin. I'm looking forward to it! I just hope it has a good Active Topics feature.

ok. i checked it out. only thing that appears to be missing is a "user cp" so you can view your subscribed threads. That is probably the one thing i miss the most from VBulletin.
shailey
08-15-2007, 07:58 AM
Nope. THere is a place at the bottom that you will click that says "All threads you have posted in" or something like that. So you will have the same thing there, just worded differently.
We aren't going to rule vbuilletin out. I am ready to purchase the license as of right now. BUT, we are going to give this other one a shot first.

Do we have that "button" now shailey?
knox_titan
08-15-2007, 02:29 PM
no there is only the 10 most recent posts now.
what I do is look for the threads that have new posts and open them up. I dont like it very much, and think one of the changes will happen VERY SOON!!

I also keep an eye out for the diamonds to the left of each forum changing from gray to blue when there's a new post.

The new system (IF WE EVER GET IT) is pretty close to vbulletin and has a lot of pretty good features like vbulletin has. The only difference is the buttons are in different places and we will have to find them.

i like the forum guys, there are some features i miss from VB tho. new posts and such but im sure there are similar commands that we just gotta get used to. but i can tell you from experience, i have run many forums and currently have a vb license that i havent used in a couple years, their software is top notch. i have tried about 5 other types and this one is new for me. so im excited to see where this software goes and to see how it compares. but you cant go wrong with vb.
