Thanks Mike. I have been looking at that thing for the past couple hours, but the info on the camping sites are vague. I don't want to camp in an RV parking lot!!!! I know some of the parks have more space between sites than others, just don't know which particular ones!

If you click on the "Camping & Lodging" link on the top left it pops up a list of the parks. Click on the park name and it has more details about the park & most have a picture gallery link under Park Menu on the right. Some of them have pics of the camp grounds, some don't. You can always call & ask, they are pretty helpful on the phone + some of these may be booked too, so you will want to reserve a site.

LOL, Alligators are the least of my worries. Finding a place that has enough activites to keep my children occupied so they don't drive me NUTS is what worries me.
We have decided on Fort Desoto Park, in Pinellas County. Anyone been there?

I used to live down there & we went a lot. It's a real nice park, not sure what the camp sites are like, was no need since we lived 10 min. away.
Only down side is you don't want to stray across the bridge into S. St. Pete/I-275 (it's not the best area to be in). Stick to the beach communities and you'll be OK.
There's a great restaruant on the beach in St. Pete Beach called the Hurricane, we went there a lot. You can have dinner, then go play on the beach & watch the sunset (kids permitting). Try their Kula-colada - YUM !!!

Well, Fort Desoto Park in Pinellas Co. Florida, gets 5 stars from my family. It was a great trip and the facilities were awesome. The campsite has water on two sided and trees on the other two sides. Bathrooms/showers were plentiful and clean. There was tons of stuff to do AND the beach was well deserved of it's 2005 title of Best Beach in the U.S.!
Even though it rained half the trip, we had a great time. Now if we were in a tent it may have been, well it would have been a little more challenging. Renting the Travel Trailer was fun, and it is definitely on my list of things to buy!!!!
If anyone knows of a better place to camp with the family, I would love to hear it and go check it out!

are they any campsites near OT, with gas prices I might want to bring my pop-up with me instead of a hotel.

Yes, there are some. Camp wilderness for one! Not sure if camping is cheaper once you factor in the gas mileage. I can check some sites out for you if you are really wanting to go that option.
