I scraped my bumper and need advice on how to fix it and where to get the paint(Bodean I guess). I figure I can just tape off the area and spray a couple coats of touch up paint, wet sand, then hit with clear coat, then polish and wax. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ouch !!!
Bodean can hook you up with the correct rattle can I'm sure, but that looks deep & you may need to more than a quick fix. Since it's on the plastic, you'll prob. need the special plastic primer + paint + clear + lots of wet sand paper !!!
There is some good info on this site:
PaintScratch Touch-Up Paint (rs), Spray Cans, Spray Paint, Paint Pens, Car Paint, Automotive Paint (http://www.paintscratch.com/)

Adam, that bites! I've got one of those little boo-boo's on my corner, too.
Pull that plastic cap off, push out and smooth any recessed areas. Then sand and paint, sand and clear. Like you said above. It'll disappear easily with minimal work.

I don't think it's that deep, well at least not through the primer. Isn't the plastic black?

No areas are recessed, which is good.

Yes, it's black plastic
It's odd how EASY the paint comes off those, though....
I wonder if warranty would pay? LOL

PaintScratch.com has the right paints also. Lots of my Altima friends have used them.

I wonder if warranty would pay? LOLYes, Mr. Serv. Mngr. the paint just kind of fell off, you can see the primer's still there.;D
But in all seriousness, it came off real easy. I glanced a Honda Pilot pulling into a parking spot, that was filthy, and he ended up with one little scratch and a clean spot on his car and I end up with a nasty looking scrape.
Now that I think about it, it might not be a bad idea to try and get a free can of paint from the dealer because it did come off so easily.

I would be worried about the paint AROUND the scrape having issues down the road.

Yeah, it's probably a good idea for me to pop off the whole cap, sand down the scrape, the surrounding area and take my time with the whole thing.

I agree, a little extra effort here and now will save a LOT of work later.

Kind of like what my grandpop taught me: If your going to do a job make sure you take the time and do it right the first time. Saves a lot of aggrevation down the road.

I don't have enough touchup for that my man. I would try to do the front yard fix. But if and when you need a new one I could send it already shot for about 120.0. I think a rattle can( which I don't sell) would get you by with some quality prep work.

I was wondering what I had missed, but I see Daniel has it quoted.
I'll probably orded a rattle can off of paintscratch.com but thanks Bodean and everyone else for their input.
I leave for Boston for business for a week on Sat. so it'll have to wait until I get home. I'll let you all know how it goes.

ok if it were me i owuld go to a local auto body supply place and have them match me a pint of paint TO THE TRUCK because even though it is an 08 i guarentee it has faded some and if you just order form the paint code you will have to be doing some blending which is hard for a novice. now the steps to fix this are as follows. now while at the paint supply store if you dont have a compressor and spray gun you can get a reusable rattle can and fill it yourself multiple times and you will also need a quart of reducer and clear coat. dont bother with rattle can clear as it is garbage. if they wont sell it to you by the qt and your local ill hook you up with enough clear and hardener to get you thru it.
1 sand entire endcap babys but smooth with 400 grit sandpaper if there are deep scratches start off with 220 then work up to 400.
2 get and adhesion promoter/flex agent you can get this at the jobber store as well or you can get a product called bulldog from wally world of all places it works verry well on flexable plastic parts. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ON CAN TO THE LETTER!
3 after adhesion promoter is dry spary your first color coat do not try and cover in one coat it should take at least 3 give each color coat at least 15 min to flash before the next coat.
4 after final color coat wait 45 min and shoot the clear on it no need to sand it if you get the clear on it within an hr or so the clear will bite into the uncured paint. spray 2 wet coats of clear with 20 min inbetween coats. now now let dry at least 6hrs before you remove the tape from the edges of the painted area. it is also a good idea to run a razor blade along the edge of the paint as to make sure you dont lift the uncured paint when you remove the tape. now let dry at least 12hrs before putting the vehicle back into service. remember no wax for at least 30 days as you will trap leftove solvents in the paint and it will crack, pop, or you will get what is know as solvent pop which is little white pimples all over you freshly painted area. now if you have orange peel you need to get rid of (a sign of spraying too dry) let it dry for a day then sand it with 2000 grit paper wet then buff with a mild rubbing compound like 3m perfect it with a foam pad at no more than 2000 rpm on the buffer.
boy with all these people wanting to do paint work looks like i will have to take lots of pics when i do jasons handles and airdam and write a lengthy how to for people to go by. i just noticed you were in jersey so you will probably have to order the paint online which bites but i dont know the local laws there pertaining to the sales of professional paint products. there are a few sites that will send you a kit with clear and all. you wnat urethane paint not an enamel. if you have any more questions feel free to pm me

no prob man you can cut corners on what i listed but it will show and it wont last like if it was done right. if you can take that corner off to do it so you dont have to worry about missing with the tape. i usually use 3M fine line 1/8" plastic tape first then 1/2" then when i put the paper on i use 1/2" as well. the fine line tape makes a crisp edge and dosent bleed at all. but you can use one size to do the job. just remember not all masking tape is created equal you want the 3M green tape the stuff they sell at the hardware dosent have the chemical resistance and has the tendancy to bleed under the edge unless you smass it on so darn hard you have a hard time getting it back off.

Unless you just feel a need to paint it yourself I would take Bodean up on his offer, thats a great deal. To fix it right you might not save much, if any once you buy all the supplies. I have a similar scratch on mine and I'm looking at the quote to fix it which is about $250. The part is $50, $45 for paint supplies, $62 for paint labor and $80 for body labor.
My scratch is hardly noticable but I do want to fix it at some point in the near future, when that point arrives I will be giving you a call Bodean.

If the cap isn't damaged just scratched why would you need $50 for a new one? Aslo if you removed the cap yourself and remounted it yourself you should only have to pay for paint supplies and labor=$107 according to your #'s.
Anyone know how hard it is to remove the cap?
