Thread Icons

I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, because nothing could come of this and I'd still be ok, but... Can we change the thread icons? The ones on the left of each thread title that show new threads, no new threads, threads with 15+ posts, etc.? I just don't like how the "15+" thread icons are always dark blue. For me, it is visually confusing as to which threads are new. Can we get some icons that are more visually ergonomic? I do like the dark blue vs. light blue contrast that the threads with less than 15 posts have when they read or not read. I've been an admin on some vB forums before, and if it's like it was back then, changing out the icons is not too hard.

Just my 2 cents. What do you all think?

EDIT: I'm also noticing that threads I have read are still "new". Can we change that too? I hope I'm not sounding nit picky. I'm just trying to help fine tune things. If my opinions are not in the majority, that's cool. I'm just getting these out there.

It is feedback like this that we want. If everyone says what they feel, then over the course of the next few weeks, we should have something that we can all enjoy.

I voted yes, but mis-understood. I say get rid of them instead. I do like the ones that show if it's a poll or has a smiley face or whatever beside it, in Column '2'.

I agree with the "column 2" icons. I do like those. To maybe clarify for others, I'm talking about the "column 1" icons. Also, I LOVE the total color scheme of the forum, so please, if we do change the icons, don't change the forum's colors just to match new icons.

See how the lower 2 are still dark blue in the lower right corner? It looks too much like the 1st icon. I guess I really only don't like the one for "Hot thread with no new posts", as it seems to look a lot like the icons for threads with new posts.

Aside from the icons, I have to say I'm really enjoying the new forum. There's a slight learning curve in finding where various features are, as well as just finding out what new features even exist, but once you do, it's an excellent forum.

man it has been hard as can be to learn all the new things on there for the admin stuff. I am still lost, but that is nothing new. There are a few kinks I have found so far, but Stephen and Charles have done a GREAT job and if it wasn't for them this would have prob never happened!!!

Good question!

I think it's because you have to log in to use it. You log in, see no one's in there, and log out. With the old one, you could open the site, see the covo from before you logged on, and say something. People would see it eventually. I liked the old one a LOT better. We really need to get a good chat application on here. Something that works well, like the old one. There's no need for a gazillion smileys, a million fonts and colors, or any sound effects in my opinion. We just need something simple that works. If no body uses it, I define that as "not working" honestly.

I agree and we are needing to address it SOON!!! I want a chat application and so do many others. One other thing that may be a factor on people not being in there is that I think that the new one is way too fast. I have always been an excellent reader, but that one made my eyes bug out. LOL

I am still working on another solution, but have yet to find one that works like what we are used to and doesn't violate our Terms of Service with our host.

It's sad that the crowd that typically hangs out in the shoutbox isn't hanging out there anymore.

not only noone is in there but when you do go in and then go to a thread it logs you out, i agree we need to do something and try to automatically log in when you log on to the site.

;D I am working on it. The biggest problem is that it can't add server load and so it has to run on somebody else's network. It's a slightly difficult problem. But I am working on a couple of different options at the moment.

I don't get bothered by them anymore. Now I just look to see if the thread title is bold or not. It's just hard to remember if I've read a thread yet or not.

If you use the link in the upper right of the page that says how many unread threads you have, it will only show you stuff that is unread. ;D
